George Barris Dune Buggy Model retro packaging design from MPC

What’s old is new again, and again, and again. This box gave me the best flash back experience since waiting online for scalper tickets at an ‘81 Pink Floyd concert. I built this exact model in the early 70’s. The Copyright says 2005 RC2 Brands. I guess it speaks for itself. I bought the non addictive glue. Time to get busy.

Hand painted product details. Truly a lost craft.

quiksilver’s company promo car with full graphics vehicles wrap - hand painted, not a sticker

This fun looking ride hangs out in front of the Quiksilver head quaters in HB. As far as I can tell it was hand painted and no slap-on graphics or stickers. We all need our minivan painted like this!

gravis accesories packaging we found at asr action sorts retailer show

Gravis. Drop your stuff in the snow or your screwed! This was spied at ASR last season and was in store this winter. As always a tight program from Burton’s Gravis shoe brand. Too bad camo is pretty much dead.

godie cosmetics young and punk branding and packaging design samples - too cool for school!
Goldie Cosmetics Packaging. This look was in retail last season. I had some shots saved and thought I’d share. Super cool punk meets prep graphics. From what I’ve seen they’re already starting to lose this sweet look-and-feel and go more junior-ish. Too bad. Tight product design too. I don’t know how well it sold through and if it’s exclusively at Bath & Bodyworks. I can’t find their official website or I would have added the link. It’s a great “I’m not for everyone” look.

Crumpler Catalog

January 11, 2007

crumpler catalog design, illustrated and printed like postcards, stickers too
At Mac Expo I found this great bag company called Crumpler from Australia. This is a 5×7 postcard catalog in a box. Each product has it’s own random illustration. A-Z plus a sticker sheet to make things even more messy. The booth was card board boxes stacked and made into little animal cages. The product hangtags were die-cut random creatures. I only shot one sample of a bag-bot man (above). The booth was cranking with media. The product seems to live up to the marketing buff out. Designed by www.tinanded.com.au

ROME Snowboard Gloves

October 20, 2006

rome snowbards package design, cool packaging concept for their glove that include a beer opener as a hanger hook
ROME rocks with their bottle opener and peg-hook combo snowboarding glove header card. Made of brushed stainless steel, it looks insane on the peg. I didn’t even notice the glove, all I wanted to do was steal this little tool! So are they encouraging the under age demographic to drink imported beer when twist-offs are the American way?

32 Snowboarding

poly bag examples from the snowboard brand 32. zip lock polybag concept for technical outerwear
32 Snowboard Poly Bag thermal soft goods. If we’re all going to drown in a sea of plastic, let’s at least go out in style. A little low-fi but still gets your attention.

Globe Shoes Packaging

September 14, 2006

shoe packaging, cigar box concept, globe shoes, packaging design, action sports branding, asr
Globe Shoes – The Castro Skate Shoe Box – I saw this on the floor at ASR – Sweet!! I love this package. You want to keep it forever, for example, like a cigar box . Now your sticker collection can really expand! Who says a budget has anything to do with a great concept.
